Archeology Exhibition

JABAL AL WEIBDEH | AMMAN

This was an exhibition design for the Khalid Shoman Foundation titled “Out of the Desert”. The exhibit showcased Nabataean artifacts, Safaitic stones and Byzantine papyrus scrolls. The approach was to create specific interventions on the existing space, transforming its familiar spatial qualities and making the artifacts part of this new visual context. The Nabataean artifacts installation consisted of a black box located in a dark room. The interior of the box was lit, painted red and contained slits through which the contents begin to unravel themselves as you circulate the room. The second installation consisted of a white space filled with sand on which the Safaitic stones were placed. To view the artifacts visitors moved on a white platform positioned on top of the sand. This idea allowed the desert to be brought into the exhibition in an abstract manner.
